havelis built in the 18th century by the rich merchants.
As you stroll through the narrow lanes get drenched
in the artistic flavor of 15th to 18th century. The
Shekhawati region of Rajasthan houses havelis of the
famous Marwari merchant families. From Singhania to
Birla, Goenka to Poddar, the list is ever ending. In
the 18th and 19th centuries, the rich Marwari merchants
spent heavily on magnificent havelis in
Shekhawati with artistic murals. The exquisite wall
paintings give a glimpse into the lifestyle, culture
and trends of by-gone era. From scenes of Krishna with
the gopis to the contemporary means of transport, the
wide scope of frescoes are adorned with gold/silver
leafs and mirrors. Shekhawati region of Rajasthan consists
of the districts of Sikar and Jhunjhunu.
