Travel to Taj Mahal

Travel to Taj Mahal, the monument of eternal love, will certainly be the most mesmerizing experience of your life. The Taj, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, is invariably a splendid creation of mankind.

On the Rajputana Getaway tour, a visit to Taj Mahal will be the most captivating moment of your travel to Agra.

The Taj Mahal is open to public from 6 am to 7 pm everyday, except Fridays. On moonlit nights, the Taj looks extraordinarily magnificent.

History of Taj Mahal

A poignant love story is behind the creation of the beautiful Taj Mahal. Mughal emperor Shah Jahan married Mumtaz Mahal after falling madly in love with her. Mumtaz accompanied her husband to all his expeditions.

During one such expedition in Burhanpur in 1631, she died while giving birth to her 14th child. Devastated by her death, Shah Jahan was inconsolable and decided to build something in his wife's memory.

Built on the Yamuna riverbed, the Taj was strategically located so that it could be easily seen from the king's palace. Shah Jahan, even on his deathbed, was gazing at the Taj.

Architecture of Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is built in a walled complex surrounded by verdant gardens known as the Char Bagh. The Taj is supported by four minarets in all the corners and is surmounted on a marble platform.

The dome of the Taj is about 55 meters high. Taj Mahal has intricate carvings, floral patterns, carved floral patterns, etc.

The cenotaphs of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal lie inside the Taj Mahal in Agra. Housed in an octagonal chamber, the tombs are made of finely cut marble screens inlaid with precious stones. Mumtaz Mahal's tomb has the 99 names of Allah carved on it.

Keeping with Mughal tradition, these memorials are just representations of the real coffins that are housed in a simple crypt in the basement of the Taj Mahal.

The construction of the Taj started in 1631 and it took about 20,000 workers to finish it in 22 years. It is said that Shah Jahan cut off the fingers of all his workers after the completion of the Taj, so that they could never construct another monument of such architectural excellence.
