Umaid Bhawan Palace is also known as Chittar Palace.
the foundation of this Palace was laid by Maharaja Umed
Singh. Made on the Chittar Hills, this palace took 16
years and one crore twenty one lac rupees for completion.
this building was costructed without using any mortar
or cement to bind stones together, all pieces were carved
stones joined together by interlacing.
It was one of the royal constructions, built to provide
work for poor villagers.
Today it has 3 functional parts, one having a five-star
hotel, one is the residence of the royal family and
one has been opened for public where a museum displays
pictures, arms, swords, and other things used by the
royalties. It has a swimming pool, dancing hall and
grand lawns . it also has a clock museum, theatre, underground
hospital and central hall.. This is the most expensive
hotel at Jodhpur and this is one of the largest private
houses in India
The primary entrance to the palace is called the Rajmahal,
which contains the traditional coat-of-arms, holding
the sacred kite, which is an incarnation of the family
goddess. Umaid Bhawan Palace houses quite a few banquet
halls and ball rooms where the monarch used to entertain
his guests, a billiard hall and an Durbar Hall. It also
has libraries paneled with teak, reception halls, double
staircases and marble flooring.
